Hormonal aspects of virilizing ovarian tumors

Abstract

The author has studied four cases of masculinizing ovarian tumor; the age of the patients was between 25-35 years; all of them presented amenorrhea, acne, hirsutism and deepening of the voice, hypertrophy of the clitoris was present in two of the cases. The hormonal determinations revealed a normal excretion of the 17-Ketosteroids in three of them, and a slight increase in the remmanent; the urinary testosterone was increased in all the cases, reaching normal male levels in three of them. The author remarks the value of plasma and urinary testosterone determinations in the study of the virilizing ovarian tumors.
