DEVELOPMENTS IN THE HOSPITAL III ECLAMPSIA ESSALUD "CAYETANO HEREDIA" PIURA: 24 YEARS EXPERIENCE

Objective: To determine the evolution, management and maternal and fetal mortality of eclampsia in 24 years and compare results with national and international studies. Method: Retrospective, descriptive epidemiological study of eclampsia cases. Setting-Gynecology and Obstetrics service, Piura (Peru) Es Salud -Cayetano Heredia- Hospital N. Results: 86,391 births and 525 cases of eclampsia occurred in 24 years, with increasing incidence from. 3,14 to 10,5 per thousand births during period c. Most affected age was less than 25-year old, 82,5% did not have pre natal control, primigravidae represented 73,7%, term gestation 57,4% puerperal eclampsia occurred in 5,4%, cesarean section in 78,1%,2 to 6 hours following diagnosis or admission in 56,8 and before 2 hours in 29,2. General anesthesia was usually employed, but during period C regional anesthesia was administered in 32,4%. Fetal mortality was 11,0% and maternal mortality 9,3% (8,5% in the group with cesarean section. Conclusion. During the 24years studied, eclampsia increased in the late years. Best result was obtained by cesarean section and prognosis of regional anesthesia is good of cesarean section is done at the right moment (in 2 to 6 hours) maternal mortality may decrease.Downloads
