Abstract

In 2015, the Mayo Clinic Proceedings magazine published an article on healthy lifestyles interventions to combat noncommunicable diseases (1). The article pointed out that noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) have become the main concern of most countries in the world. More than 36 million people in the world die from these causes each year, representing 63% of deaths, most of which are preventable and mean an immense financial burden that could reach $ 13 trillion in 2030. A significant number of NCDs shares common risk factors related to lifestyle: smoking, hypertension, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, obesity, physical inactivity and poor nutrition. In large part, the prevention, control or even reversal of modifiable risk factors are obtained by leading a healthy life. Any economic investment in NCDs contributes to the prevention of health in people and in investment itself (2).
