Between June and September, 1991, fifty pregnant women on ther third trimestre, of mean age 24.7 +/- 7.1 (range: 14-40) years, were randomly recruited in order to asses plasma glucose level. All women were in-patients who were admitted for medical or obstetrical complications or at the begining of labor. Meeting all those recommendations of the Second International Conference about Diabetes Mellitus in pregnancy, patiens were undergone during an hour an oral glucose overload test and, pregnancy hyperglicemia was considered when plasma glucose level was 130 mg/dl or greater. Twenty four (48%) patients had risk antecedents for pregnancy diabetes mellitus, the remainder twenty six (52%) women had none. No significant difference was found in the incidence of hyperglicemia between these two groups neither was correlation between maternal age and glucose values. We found one clear case of hyperglicemia in the non risk group and another one in the risk group; these two cases representa global incidence of pregnancy diabetes of 4 per cent.Downloads
