Maternal mortality by three hospitals in Trujillo

OBJECTIVE: To study maternal mortality during 15 years and determine its tendency and etiological factors. DESIGN: Restrospective study. SETTING: Tree hospitals in Trujillo. RESULTS: Ninety four mothers died with a mortality rate of 87,8 x 100, 000 NV. Risk increased after 35 years and 4th. pregnancy, and in patients without prenatal care (p < 0, 01). Direct causes produced 83,7% of deaths and indirect causes 17,3%. Main direct causes were infections (28%), pregnancy induced hypertension (26,5%), and hemorrhage (23,4%). CONCLUSION: There is not a clear tendency to diminish maternal mortality rate in Trujillo.Downloads
