Abstract

Forty years ago, on July 25, 1978, Louise Joy Brown, the first successful human conceived by vitro fertilization (IVF), was born. Ever since, 6 to 8 million test-tube babies have been born. A short history of IVF at that time and current advances are presented, and future clinical problems in the mother and the baby are reviewed.
